Bio

Andrew Ryan “K-Rai” Stinnett, Baltimore, MD based DJ and producer, has continued to create music and perform for over two decades with albums, EPs, singles and remixes across a range of styles. Blending the sounds of Juke, Footwork, and Jungle, while still touching on other influences from Rave, Techno, DnB, Grime, IDM, Baltimore Club, Down-Tempo and more. Melding seemingly disparate influences until something new emerges.

A pioneer in electronic music, performing original, Techno, Breaks, & IDM influenced material live with two laptops and a DJ mixer before the term “laptop DJ” entered the general lexicon. Along the way meeting fellow laptop musicians joining the crew known as Cytoplastik. Deep in Baltimore’s warehouse art-scene, they put on gallery openings with full-on after-parties and released the compilation “Pods” in 2003. That year K-Rai also started participating in the Philly Laptop Battles presented by Seclusiasis. Later, a finalist at the Mid-Atlantic Laptop Battle in DC (2005). K-Rai then became victor of Philly Laptop Battle #7 in 2007. Always hungry to create and push things further, K-Rai is no stranger to collaboration. Forming a duo dubbed The Megadrives with Joseph Clark in 2006, both of whom had just switched to using Renoise production software. Under this new project they released multiple albums under Cytoplastik and Quantum Groove Collective, consistently gigged including festivals, have appeared on film; video game soundtracks, and TV advertising.
K-Rai performances include: Bass Harvest, Catharsis on the Mall, Free Form, Wicker Man, Desiderata, Moonrise and much more.

K-Rai has featured mixes on: The Footwork Jungle, Kulture Lab, Sherelle Presents on Reprezent Radio, Juke Bounce Werk, Bassota, and Expansion Broadcast. DJ & host of the monthly internet radio show 160 & Beyond on Sub FM (UK) from 2018-2023. K-Rai will continue to push the boundaries with his own genre-defying sounds while also spreading the love of fellow musicians.

“This dude’s music puts warehouse grime under my fingernails. It’s that authentic. …Think Squarepusher meets Boards of Canada. I love that this stuff is coming outta Baltimore. It’s great to see somebody’s making moves to put that lawless, pirate attitude back into the beats.” (88DC Music Blog Review)
